FINISHED DEVELOPMENT OF ECOLOGICAL NETWORK PLAN FOR ASSURANCE OF CONSERVATION OF RARE SAPROXYLOPHAGOUS BEETLES

Ecological network plan includes information on significance of dead wood in the ecosystem, there are characterized main factors endangering saproxylic species and their conservation problems. Species biology, habitats, conservation status, endangering factors are given for every specially protected saproxylophagous beetle species of European Union significance, there are also given suggestions for species conservation. The plan is illustratively supplemented by photos of rare and protected beetle species and their habitats.

For every saproxylic species of EU significance there was elaborated model of potential distribution, which includes information about all forest stands potentially suitable for species occurrence in Latvia, taking into consideration ecological demands of every species for choice of habitats. data about potentially suitable habitats are saved in geo-databse and are available for application with GIS software.

Elaborated Ecological network plan includes also information about two especially protected species in Europe (Xyletinus tremulicola and Pytho kolwensis), they can be theoretically traced in Latvia.
